Water Leak Closes Farm Bureau Office
Due to a water main break inside the Vermilion County Farm Bureau building, the Farm Bureau offices will be closed this Thursday and Friday, February 2-3. We apologize for any inconvenience.


Estate Planning Meetings Scheduled
Country Financial is hosting some Estate Planning Information Meetings on Thursday, February 23. One will be 10:00 am - 12:30 pm at O'Leary's Cross Roads Restaurant in Chrisman, with the other running from 6:00 - 8:30 pm (IL time) at the Beef House in Covington IN. Rick Morgan, a senior financial security consultant with Country Financial, and Bob Swires, certified appraiser with Swires Land and Management, will talk about changes in federal and state estate taxes and planning for the transfer of the family farm. Reservations are needed by February 17 by calling the Farm Bureau office at 217-442-8713.

 
Local Member Gets Prize in State Photo Contest
Vermilion County Farm Bureau member Kelbi Ervin, of Danville, received 2nd place in the "From the Front Porch" category in the 2011 IFB Member Photo Contest. She received a $25 gift card, and will have her photo published in FarmWeek and Partners. Over 300 entries were received in the 4th year of the contest. Other Vermilion County members entering included: Kammie Richter, Oakwood; Joyce Miles, Catlin; and Hannah Story, Danville.

Spring Outlook Program
Vermilion County Farm Bureau Marketing Committee hosted its Spring Outlook Seminar on Monday, January 16. The program featured Paul Coolley with ADM Investor Services and Corey Winstead with AgriVisor. They gave their perspective on the grain and livestock markets for the coming months.
Also on the program was Blake Miller with Illini FS. He looked at pricing and availability of fertilizer and crop inputs for the coming year.


Scholarship Applications Now Available
Vermilion County Farm Bureau members and their children can now apply for several scholarships available for college students in the coming year. Click on the following links to download the applications various application forms:
 
IAA Foundation offers over $100,000 in schlarships. Application deadline is February 1.

Freese Memorial Scholarship is made possible through the foresight of Ed and Helen Freese and Immanuel Lutheran Church of Flatville. Application deadline is February 10.

Andrews-Brumett Scholarship is offered to a Vermilion County high school senior attendign DACC. It is sponsored by the families of Clark and Katharyn Andrews and Joe and Agnes Brumett. Application deadline is April 4.

 
93rd Annual Meeting a Success
Vermilion County Farm Bureau held it's 93rd Annual Meeting on a new date this year - Tuesday, November 29, at the Beef House Banquet Center. The Wabash College Glee Club provided a very enjoyable program. During the meeting Mark Crawford was elected to the Board of Directors, and Carol Finley was honored as the VCFB Ag in the Classroom Teacher of the year.


Silent Auction Another Success
Vermilion County Farm Bureau Foundation held its annual Silent Auction to support Ag in the Classroom during the Annual Meeting. Members bid on a variety of items, like a red wagon, Bruce Weber autographed Illini Jersey, olive oil gift set, Brian Cardinal autographed picture and ball, Vermilion County Ag History package, and many more. Over $1,800 was raised, with an additional $380 donated through a $100 gas card raffle.  THANK YOU to everyone for their support.
